Kansas Ultrarunners is being built as a structured registry of runners with a documented connection to Kansas ultrarunning — preserving who they are, how they are connected, and what is actually verified.

Race results tell part of the story. Kansas Ultrarunners is intended to document the people behind those results and make their relationship to Kansas ultrarunning clear without forcing every runner into the same definition of “Kansas ultrarunner.”
The project separates affiliation from verification. That distinction allows the registry to be inclusive without pretending every biographical fact carries the same level of certainty.
Three ways a runner may be connected to Kansas.
Born in Kansas
For runners whose birthplace is in Kansas. A profile may show this status as documented or independently verified depending on the evidence available.
Lived here during their ultrarunning career
For runners who maintained a meaningful Kansas residence during some portion of their ultrarunning career, regardless of where they were born.
Meaningful connection to the Kansas ultra community
For runners whose documented participation, performances, history, or contribution gives them a substantial connection to Kansas ultrarunning even if they were neither born nor based here.
Affiliation tells the relationship. Verification tells the evidence.
Affiliation status
A runner may be tagged as Kansas-born, Kansas-based, Kansas-connected, or not yet fully classified.
Evidence status
A profile may be supported by documented race results, historical sources, runner-confirmed information, or independent third-party verification.
Birth documents should not live in this database.
If a runner wants a stronger Verified Kansas-born designation, the intended model is independent third-party identity verification rather than sending sensitive identity documents directly to Kansas Ultrarunners.
The registry should receive only the minimum verification outcome needed to support the designation. The project does not need to collect or retain a runner’s birth certificate.
Build from documented race participation, then improve the profiles.
The initial registry is expected to begin with authorized historical race-result data and other reliable ultrarunning sources that identify participants in Kansas ultramarathons.
That creates a practical starting universe of runners connected to Kansas events. From there, profiles can be classified, corrected, expanded, claimed, and independently verified over time.
